Gender equality is a human right. Women are entitled to live with dignity and with freedom from want and fear. Gender equality is also a precondition for advancing development and reducing poverty. Empowered women contribute to the health and productivity of whole families and communities and improve prospects for the next generation.
We work with the government and partners to respond to GBV through strengthening instruments and law enforcement on gender equality, violence against women and children, strengthening capacities, and multi-sectoral coordination at national and sub-national levels to implement legal and policy frameworks related to gender equality and combating gender-based violence.
We implement the program through:
- Advocacy and implementation of national action plans related to gender equality and gender-based violence;
- Support to legal and accountability frameworks aligned with international treaties and standards;
- Strengthen capacities of government and civil society decision-makers and service providers at national and sub-national levels to ensure survivor-centred, coordinated, multi-sectoral services, to prevent and respond to gender-based violence in development and humanitarian settings;
- Advance gender equality, challenge biased social norms, including gender-based violence and child marriage, address harmful masculinities and promote reproductive health and reproductive rights;
- Strengthen coordination and expand alliances including with civil society for joint advocacy and interventions to advance gender equality and address gender-based violence and harmful practices.
