UNFPA joined by 40 partners including the European Union (EU), the National Commission for the Advancement of Mother and Child (NCAWMC) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), conducted the yearly campaign for the 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls in Lao PDR. The campaign aimed to raise awareness and foster actions to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls.
Campaign Highlights:
Lighting up Patuxay orange
In collaboration with the Government of Lao PDR, the EU, and KOICA, UNFPA illuminated the iconic Patuxay Monument in orange to mark the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Held under the global theme, “Toward 30 Years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls,” the event brought together a wide range of stakeholders to advocate for the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls.
As part of the campaign, the "Empowerment Runway" fashion show, an artistic and symbolic event, took place at the ASEAN Park in Vientiane Capital. The show creatively highlighted the different forms of violence faced by women and girls while promoting inclusivity, equality, and respect for all.
Media workshop on ethical reporting on Gender-Based Violence
A media training workshop brought together more than 30 journalists from both the public and private sectors, providing them with essential knowledge and tools to report on gender-based violence (GBV) ethically and responsibly. The initiative aimed to deepen journalists' understanding of GBV issues while championing the rights of women and girls.
Creative 3D video calling to end violence
An innovative advocacy video, featuring a dynamic 3D creation, was developed to combat Violence Against Women, alongside the lighting of the iconic Patuxay Monument in orange to mark the launch of the 16 Days of Activism. This powerful visual campaign aimed to raise awareness and inspire action against gender-based violence.
Respect Begins at Home
The "RESPECT Begins at Home" video seeks to raise a generation of compassionate, empowered individuals by emphasizing the critical role of education in shaping men who respect women. By challenging harmful gender norms from an early age, the initiative encourages the development of values that promote gender equality, foster mutual respect, and ultimately contribute to ending violence against women and girls.
Street Billboard
UNFPA, NCAWMC and EU published street Billboards promoting the end of VAWG in sign language in partnership with the Disabled Women Center. The video was seen over 5,100,000 times.
