UNFPA praised for supporting International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

The Lao National Commission for the Advancement of Women presented a certificate of appreciation to the United Nations Population Fund in recognition of its support to the celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The certificate was presented by the Minister to the Government Office and Chairperson of the Lao National Commission for the Advancement of Women (LaoNCAW), Mme. Khampheng Pholsena to Dr. Esther Muia, UNFPA representative, in Vientiane capital on 6 February.

Many activities for the celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women took place during 25 November to 10 December, including a walking marathon, flower planting, seminars on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) for eight provinces and 11 ministries and the launch of the hotline service on elimination of against violence women and children No 1362.

Other organizations who also supported the celebration included UN Women, WFP, International Law Project of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lao Brewery Company, Ideally Drinking Water Company, Lao Telecom, ETL, Lao Star Telecom and National Steering Committee for Rural Development and Poverty Reduction.
