Youth Innovation Challenge 2022
Announcement
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Faculty of Education, National University of Laos (NUOL), Lao Youth Union (LYU) and Global Shapers Vientiane Hub are calling for young innovators from Lao PDR to participate in Youth Innovation Challenge 2022 by submitting innovative implementable ideas and technical solutions.
The youth innovation challenge 2022 will be organized in the form of a hackathon and is an initiative designed to identify and promote the implementable innovative ideas or solutions coming from young people. Individuals or teams with top 3 innovative ideas or solutions will be awarded with USD 1,000 each as prizes for top innovative ideas or solutions. The award amount will be disbursed in Lao Kip.

If you are a young person between the age of 18 and 35 years, a citizen of Lao PDR, living in Lao PDR and if you have a great innovative implementable idea or technology solution, that is respectful to the culture, environment and to youth in all their diversity, you are invited to submit your application for the Youth Innovation Challenge 2022 as an individual or as a team.
Thematic areas for which applications with ideas or solutions will be accepted:
- Promoting sexual and reproductive health of adolescents and young people with focus on addressing early and unwanted pregnancies,
- Promoting mental health and wellbeing of adolescents and young people
- Addressing climate change
Suggested characteristics of the ideas/solution for submission in the youth innovation challenge 2022:
- Ideas and solutions should be new and innovative and should be implementable ideas or technology solutions.
- Addressing the rights of young men and women to decide for their bodies, to access family planning and to live free from violence.
- Combining youth rights and the protection of the planet as an important component of the “future we want”
- Realistic ideas and solutions that can be implemented and are scalable
- Inclusive to youth in all their diversities
- Involving communities (stakeholders, families…)
- Respectful to the Lao culture, target population and environment
Participation criteria:
- A team or an individual from any part of Lao PDR who has an innovative idea or solution on the above mentioned themes can apply by filling the provided form with a detailed overview of the idea/solution.
- Age of applicant individuals or team members must be above 18 years and up to 35 years
- Young people who are citizens of lao PDR
- Young females and young people from ethnic groups, LGBTIQ and/or with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply

Selection process:
The applications will be assessed by a panel of judges based on a set of criteria (thematic areas, innovation, implementability, feasibility, cultural appropriateness, impact and reach, scalability and sustainability) and the shortlisted individuals/teams will be invited to participate in a hackathon to further refine and present their ideas/solutions. The top 3 ideas will be selected for prizes by a panel of judges based on the above criteria and presentation in the hackathon. The selection decision by the panel of judges will be final and will be accepted by the organizers and all applicants.
