UNFPA Office in Lao PDR is looking for a National Consultant for Communications to work in UNFPA Country
Office.
Duration of the work: Full time work from Monday to Friday. From beginning of October 2019 to end of March 2020 (with possibility of
extension as needed)

Place of work: Vientiane capital and possibility of field work in some targeted provinces in Lao PDR

Scope of work:

  • The consultant is expected to support the Country Office to:
  • Implement the Country Office Communication Strategy and Plans.
  • Develop, update, produce, translate and distribute communication materials
  • Coordinate and support advocacy events maximizing the participation of the media
  • Regularly update UNFPA CO website, Facebook and Twitter
  • Maintain media contact list and Press clipping files
  • Serve as a Communication Focal Point and participate in the UN Communication Group meetings and liaise with the UNFPA Regional Information Officer in Bangkok
  • Assist in CO’s efforts for capacity development of CO staff and national counterparts in communication and advocacy
  • Support development and translation of UNFPA’s basic communication and advocacy materials such as press releases, stories, speeches and other documents from English to Lao language
  • Monitor local media in terms of UNFPA-related stories and key interest areas
  • Liaise with local media and facilitate information sharing (including quotes, photos and factual data) as required
  • Liaise with local printers, graphic designers, TV and radio production houses where required
  • Assists in other areas as assigned by the UNFPA Representative

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Higher education, preferably in any of the following: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Graphic Design, Web Design, Media or Print Production, English; development studies or other related disciplines in accordance with the skills required for the position.
  • A high level of computer literacy is essential
  • Coaching and on-the job training will be provided as necessary. It is vital that the candidate has a strong interest in communications/media/journalism. Skills and experience on photography, graphic design and/or journalism is an asset.
  • Previous experience with the UN or other international organizations is an asset
  • English (excellent to fluent) and Lao (native speaker, excellent writing skills essential for translation)
